Play with Ease
Body Mapping and Alexander Technique for Musicians
Body Mapping and the Alexander Technique are two of the most effective and most overlooked tools available to musicians. Together, they help you understand how your body is actually designed to move, recognize the habits that are working against you, and discover what it feels like to play with genuine ease.
The changes can be surprising: less tension, more resonance, longer practice sessions without fatigue, progress faster, and enjoy a new sense of confidence and freedom in performance.
Who is this for?
Musicians dealing with pain, injury, and/or limitation
Musicians who are looking to improve at a faster pace by aligning their movement with the body’s natural design
Music teachers - improve your own playing and wellbeing while you get new strategies for working with your students
1:1 Sessions
Private sessions are the most direct path to change. Working individually with James, you’ll receive personalized attention focused entirely on your body, your playing, and your goals — no generic curriculum, no one-size-fits-all protocol.
James begins by learning how you move: your posture, your habitual patterns, the places you hold tension without realizing it. From there, you’ll work together to retrain those patterns in a way that is practical, embodied, and immediately applicable to your instrument.
FORMAT & AVAILABILITY
Sessions are available in-person and via Zoom. Length is tailored to you and the format. Ongoing weekly sessions and short-term intensive formats are both available.
“With the technique, we use thought to direct our body to lengthen, widen, and trust itself. With James’ help, I find myself centered and pleasantly at home in myself. James knows how to convey challenging concepts with good humor and asks me what I want to carry forward and work on in and between our sessions. It’s been a pleasure being James’ student. He knows that his personal work with the technique is vital to conveying its understanding. He loves the work and that love comes though.”

"My voice felt significantly freer, resonant, and my breathing deepened. So simple, so effective, I wish I had known about this 20 years ago! Never too late, though, and I will certainly be passing this on to my students. I would highly recommend this to anyone who uses their body and wants to find their full potential.
Amazing stuff. I can’t thank James enough, who is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable, but also an all-around nice guy. Can’t wait for another session!"
